DOUBLE LOVE // Women are incredible! Captured by the talented @melissajeanbabies

BREASTS ARE FOR BREASTFEEDING // Brelfies aren’t about attention or showing off, they’re about awareness and encouragement. Encouragement for new moms like me, who had enough anxieties and insecurities without the judgement of a stranger. They provide inspiration to those of us who desperately needed to see women nursing openly and be told that it was ok – that if my baby became hungry, I could stop and feed him, without worry of those around us. And most importantly, it’s about desensitizing a world that’s hellbent on covering women unless they are being sexy, even if it interferes with meeting the basic needs of their child. The only breasts shown in the media were clad in lingerie and overly sexualized and the phrase I heard over and over from people was 'I support breastfeeding, but I just think women need to cover up/be discreet/I don’t want it in my face.' The message to me as a new mother was loud and clear: don’t you dare show your breasts for their intended use. If these photos truly offend you, then maybe you aren’t the intended audience. Look away and keep your thoughts to yourself. Because if you’re one of the people who have said “I support breastfeeding, BUT I just think women need to cover up/be discreet/I don’t want it in my face,” or any other moronic statement following that “but”, then you do not actually support breastfeeding. Women have breasts to feed children, and supporting them means supporting their legal and moral right to nurse wherever and whenever their babies are hungry. Long live the #brelfie. STOP CENSORING BIRTH & MOTHERHOOD // It is an incredibly sad day when an account as inspirational, powerful, educational and game changing as @melissajeanbabies is TAKEN DOWN from @instagram. Birth and breastfeeding are not pornographic or vulgar, they are everyday miracles that ought to be embraced, respected and honoured. Many people are unaware that when an image is reported for not complying with Instagram's Community Guidelines, the image is simply removed and the account cannot be accessed until you agree to abide by these rules and if you become a repeat offender your account will be shut down. You are NOT told which image was reported, you have NO right of reply, you are NOT informed BEFORE the image is removed, you must simply accept the decision and BEHAVE. WHY IS @INSTAGRAM RUN LIKE A DICTATORSHIP?… #stopcensoringbirth #birthisbeautiful #birthisnatural #birthisnormal #bringbackmelissajeanbabies #bringbackmelissajean #melissajeanbabies #birthwithconfidence #bumpbirthandbeyond For those reporting these incredible images, I'm sorry you lack the love, education and understanding to see birth and motherhood for the pure divinity it is. I send you love and light x

I'll feed my hungry child, here or there, if you don't like my boob I still don't care. A Restaurant? A store? It's boob juice galore! A theater? A museum? But your more focused on trying to see them! Bottle or boob Its all just food. You still think I should cover? You should run and tell your mother. Pull out your phone and take a picture? But I'm the one who's the problem? Don't you wish we could all mind our business? That would sure solve them! Think I am disgusting? I could say the same? SKIN TO SKIN contact immediately after birth, which lasts for at least an hour (and should continue for as many hours as possible throughout the day and night for the first number of weeks) has the following positive effects. The baby: – allows the baby to be colonized by the same bacteria as the mother. – Is more likely to latch on – Is more likely to latch on well – Maintains his body temperature normal better even than in an incubator – Maintains his heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure normal – Has higher blood sugar – Is less likely to cry – Is more likely to breastfeed exclusively and breastfeed longer – Will indicate to his mother when he is ready to feed Image @captured_birth_photography

#bumpbirthandbeyond RG: @yisneyterrero

I've been following this gorgeous mama @tori__hendrix for some time now, and learned only yesterday that she has been battling cancer since the #birth of her son last year. On the night of her baby shower she was admitted to the ER with severe pain and concerning weight loss. While her son was born miraculously healthy by #csection shortly thereafter, doctors simultaneously discovered that cancer had spread throughout her body. Neuroendocrine carcinoma is a rare and aggressive form of cancer, and I have personally witnessed the suffering and devastation this disease can cause during my career as a nurse. Tori and her family have been faced with aggressive, experimental treatments and long hospitalizations as they raise their two small children. The costs of her treatment are staggering and insurmountable; a #gofundme account has been established (link in my bio ?) and I strongly urge all of you to donate ANY amount to her cause. Imagine if we all gave just $1– what an incredible difference it would make in her life! Please, support @tori__hendrix in any way you can. Share this message and rally the village! @tori__hendrix we support you, we love you, you are not alone ? also follow @helpinghendrix for an auction! #helpingthehendrixs #ittakesavillage #empoweredbirthproject #tribedemama (thank you @dorideer for spreading the word)

Ahhh, I have a huge #wcw for this mama @jillianaanderson ? I recently had the chance to connect with her and I am blown away by her wisdom and intuitive understanding of the divine feminine. She is a writer and a teacher of jade egg practice to strengthen and revitalize the womb ? #jadewithjillian ? She offers a FREE eBook on the benefits of a jade egg practice which you can download through the link in her bio. I'm so inspired by this and I have recently incorporated it into my #selfcare practice for #postpartum healing. Any woman can benefit from it whether or not she has given #birth. Go follow @jillianaanderson, read her eBook, and bask in her beauty and wisdom… you won't regret it ? #wombwisdom #yoni #yonimagic #jadewithjillian #empoweredbirthproject #breastfeeding #motherhood #bosomnectar

Now that I am publicly #breastfeeding a toddler who is almost two, I'm receiving a lot more commentary about how he's too old, how I'm damaging him, how it's offensive, and other ridiculous notions. And I just want to say… it is only ever a personal decision between mother and child. Nothing more. Nourishing and nurturing a child with human breasts is one of the purest acts of #love in this world, and it is worthy of our respect and support at all times. More power to the mamas who continue to practice #extendedbreastfeeding despite our society's judgement and aversion to it ?? I support you ?? this beautiful mama is @chakalita85, photo found on @cinthiapomaski_doula ✨ #empoweredbirthproject #bosomnectar #motherhood #mindfulmamas #nursingatoddler

Let's talk more about #extendedbreastfeeding shall we? It's actually only considered "extended" in cultures like the US where people start to lose their minds when a child is breastfed beyond infancy, and where mothers struggle to maintain breastfeeding without proper paid leave and time off work to bond with their newborns… And where breasts are sexualized as playthings for men. According to the National Association for Child Development (www.nacd.org), the average age of weaning worldwide is 4.5 years of age. And that's just an average!! Meaning there are large numbers of children #breastfeeding well beyond that age, into 5 and 6 years of life and even beyond. This is normal. This is beautiful. This is not shameful. This is love, connection, comfort, nourishment… All the good things. ? photo of Brazilian mother by @jmllqrz ✨ #empoweredbirthproject #motherhood #bosomnectar

Friends, I've started a new page called @fed_is_best ?? inevitably, whenever I've posted about bottle feeding I receive judgmental comments about how breast is best (it is, but that's not the point), that person should do whatever it takes to breastfeed, how dare you promote formula, etc etc… It's not always that simple! @fed_is_best is a safe place for people to share their feeding journeys of ALL kinds– bottle, breast, toddler, tandem, NICU, feeding tube, and more. Join the movement by following the page and sharing your story with us through DM and/or the tag #fedisbest ? because we could all use less judgement and more love ? #Repost @fed_is_best ・・・ ✨Tandem breastfeeding✨ the magic of feeding two tiny humans at the same time ? #fedisbest #breastfeeding #tandembreastfeeding #motherhood ? @annahutchisonphotog mama @shelsinki

Thank you all so much for sending your beautiful submissions to my new page @fed_is_best ?? the response has been so positive, please keep them coming! Less judgement, more love ❤️❤️ #Repost @fed_is_best ・・・ Hello friends ? I'm @katievigos, and I started @fed_is_best out of the desire to change the ways we view the feeding of our young… There's too much judgement, criticism, comparison, and shame. What we need is support, education, and love. I have breastfed, bottle fed, used formula, donor milk, and homemade formula with my 3 boys. I've pumped and taken medication and supplements and teas and everything in between. I truly believe that although we know breastmilk is nature's perfect food for baby, it is not always that simple; in the end, #fedisbest. Please join this movement by sharing your stories with us! #Repost @fed_is_best ・・・ Sometimes even after trying everything humanly possible, #breastfeeding just doesn't happen. @laylaygibson you are doing an amazing job ✨ ・・・ Breastfeeding: I tried everything in my power to build a supply for my girls. Pumping, lactation consultants, mothers milk tea/vitamins, formula wired to my nipples, up all hours of the night and having emotional breakdowns not understanding why my body couldn't build up any milk over the last month. Due to the way my birth went and excess of fluids in my body and trauma, my breasts aren't able to supply even enough milk for one baby. I never thought I would have problems breastfeeding and realize now I did the absolute best I could do. I wanted to thank my friends who have supplied my girls with their milk @kikialamode and @kacej. I'm so lucky to have friends like you!!! I also feel like people don't talk about how hard breastfeeding can be and if you can BF you're incredibly lucky. I pump all day to be able to provide my girls with one ounce of my milk, and I've excepted that's the best I can do. All I can give them is my love and that's most important. ✨ #fedisbest #lessjudgementmorelove #twinmagic #donormilk #bottlefeeding
